The head gasket fits between the cylinder head and the cylinder block and contains both the cylinder pressure and the cooling fluid, it prevents leaks of liquid, dirt and oil from getting into the engine and allows the engine to run smoothly. And just like any other part of the car, gaskets and seals suffer from wear and tear. The important thing is to catch any problems with the gasket early. If the gasket blows and is dealt with early, it’s quite a straightforward and not too expensive job, however, if it’s left too long it can cause major engine damage, and that’s when repair times and costs will start to mount up.
